NDSA WELCOMES PUBLICATION OF NEW NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS STRATEGY FOR DISABLED PEOPLE

The National Disability Services Association welcomes the publication of the new National Human Rights and Disability Strategy. It sets an important vision for advancing equality and ensuring that the rights of people with disabilities are upheld.

Ireland’s implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with a Disability (UNCRPD) is currently being reviewed by the UN Committee responsible for oversight.  For the Strategy to make a genuine difference to upholding the human rights set out in the Convention, it must be matched with clear funding commitments in the forthcoming Budget and underpinned by a robust, whole-of-government implementation plan. Only then will its ambitions translate into meaningful outcomes for people with disabilities and their families.

The NDSA looks forward to working with Government and partners to ensure the strategy delivers on its promise.
